The top 3 bottlenecks faced by CCGs (and how to avoid them)

  1. SPEEDING UP RECORDS ACQUISITION

Acquiring records can take up valuable time and resource:

Call large suppliers, such as GP archives and social services with advanced warning - you can find out how they prefer to receive record requests.

Use the 'Three Strikes' rule and develop a process within this to create an audited account of your attempts to obtain records.

Work with solicitors involved who will also be obtaining records, and may be willing to share them to ensure their cases are resolved more swiftly.

  2. ENSURING A FAMILY CENTRED PROCESS

Ensuring that the views of the family are at the heart of the process is paramount.

Agree in advance how, and at which points, contact will be made to update on progress by developing a 'trigger system' that flags when contact should be made.

Design questionnaires that capture the information within the NPD, demonstrates that your process is family centred.

Build other feedback mechanisms such as family comment forms to collate quality evidence.

  3. PANEL SCHEDULING

Poor panel scheduling can create bottlenecks therefore forward planning is essential.

Identify the number of panels required by taking into account individual panel limits and total number of cases.

Working back from this, book panels in advance throughout the period.

Create a System identifying and recording all panel requirements such as Clinical Lead availability and family returned feedback.
